A jungle in the Cévennes
Along the way, local clay becomes the unmistakable garden pots of Anduze, a form created here three centuries ago and little changed since. You watch the potter's wheel turn, and leaving without a vase of your own becomes surprisingly difficult.
Then comes a landscape that should not exist here at all: giant bamboo taller than a building, a Laotian village at the foot of the Cévennes and a Japanese garden laid out according to feng shui. Long before tropical film sets became commonplace, shipwreck stories were already being filmed here.
Lunch in Anduze ends as it should, with pélardon, the small local goat's cheese made here for centuries, and a glass of chestnut wine or another wine from the region.
