Ways to explore this theme

We will choose the option that suits you best. These are alternative routes, not a checklist for a single day.

Sunday, the local way

On Sundays, this family wine estate becomes far more than a tasting room. There is a theatre, live music and a line of food trucks serving dishes from nearby and much further afield. It is not a performance laid on for visitors, but a local tradition that draws families from the surrounding villages.

The gates open at ten and close at one, yet a small festival somehow fits into those three hours: music, food, wine, and conversations with the next table that begin with hello and end with exchanged numbers. There are more than a dozen cuvées, each with a label as distinctive as the wine inside. The bottle already feels like a gift before it has been opened.

By one o'clock, we leave well fed, happy and pleasantly light-headed, exactly as a good Sunday should end.

The wine the popes drank

The village that gave its name to one of France's most celebrated wines is where the popes once chose to spend their summers. Their taste was evidently excellent. The château is now a ruin, but the wine has only grown in stature.
